About Birdies For Kids
The Birdies For Kids Fundraiser was established to encourage local Northern Texas PGA Members and Associates to dedicate one day to help raise funds for their local community by doing what they do best – playing golf!
Each year, close to 25 local children's charities along with the Northern Texas PGA Foundation are the recipients of the fundraising efforts thanks to the generous communities who help donate to the professionals' causes.
The Birdies For Kids fundraiser has seen great growth over the years and has raised almost $3 million for the community. But, the goal remains the same – Make birdies. Make a difference.
History of the Fundraiser
2004 - 2014
It all began in 2004 when a group of DFW-based Australians who work in the golf industry founded the Birdies For Kids fundraiser. They began the fundraiser with the feelings of being fortunate to have the opportunity to live and work in the United States. They simply wanted to do something to give back to the local community.
The inaugural fundraiser was held at Preston Trail Golf Club in Dallas. It consisted of seven Aussies each playing 72 holes with the goal to make as many birdies and eagles as possible. They each solicited pledges from family, friends, club members and companies for every birdie and eagle that was made. The goal for that first fundraiser was to raise $14,000. The support for that first event far exceeded expectation and goal with $47,806 raised that day!
The proceeds from that first Birdies For Kids fundraiser benefited the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation's golf in schools program and also the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Memorial Fund at the Medical Center of Plano.
2014 - now
After the 10th year, the fundraiser format was modified to include all PGA Members and Associates in the Northern Texas PGA, rather than just Aussie professionals, who wished to participate. During that year in 2014, more than 30 golf professionals and 15 additional clubs participated.
In 19 years, thanks to the generous support from thousands of donors, the Birdies For Kids fundraiser has amassed nearly $3,000,000 in donations that have been directed toward various children's charities in the northern Texas area.
